Jordin Sparks may be the youngest American Idol winner to date but she is already a pro in the world of showbiz having joined numerous contests and racking up many awards not only in singing but in acting and modeling as well. On December 22, 1989, the biography of a baby girl named Jordin Brianna Sparks started. Jordin was born in Staten Island, New York to Jodi Wiedmann and Philippi Sparks. Jodi is a Caucasian native of Arizona while Philippi is an African American ex-football player in the NFL. Jordin or JoJo, as she is fondly called, has a younger brother named Philippi Sparks Jr. or PJ. Pam Wiedmann, Jordin’s grandmother from her mother side is her manager.

As young as 18 months old, Jordin have began singing and the Calvary Community Church was her stage ever since. As a triple threat of singer, model and actress, Jordin began her acting debut in theater plays. She took on a dual role for the play Magdalene at the Plumbline Theater in Franklin, Tennessee as Bea and Deborah. Sparks have appeared on March, June and August of 2002 at the Valley Youth Theater in Phoenix, Arizona for The Wiz, Cinderella and again The Wiz. For The Wiz she played a poppy and an Emerald City dancer.

Jordin is also a winner in the modeling world as she was picked as the Next Plus Size Model of Phoenix Torrid along with another one who was sent to California to shoot promotional ads for Torrid. In the December 2006 issue of Seventeen magazine, a full-page Torrid ad that features Jordin can be seen proving that she is loved by the camera as well.

In 2003 and at thirteen years old, Jordin already recorded an album entitled For Now with Matthew Ward and Gary Leach. Matthew Ward is a legend in the Christian music genre while Gary Leach is an accomplished engineer who worked with LeAnn Rimes’ albums. Sparks also recorded for a compilation in 2004 entitled Live at Mr. Lucky?s.

She auditioned in 2003 for American Juniors and Star Search. In 2004, Jordin won second place in the Music in the Rockies national competition that showcases contemporary Christian music artists. 2004 proved to be a busy year for Sparks as she performed two times in America?s Most Talented Kids and won on the first appearance.

Sparks stepped into the limelight when she won the Fox 10 KSAZ Arizona Idol contest with a prize of a Seattle, Washington audition for the sixth season of American Idol. Her audition was shown on January 17, 2007 with her singing ?Because You Loved Me? by Celine Dion. Although Simon Cowell critiqued her for being too sweet, all of the judges were wowed by the talent 17-year old Jordin has.

During Jordin’s stay in American Idol she has never been in the bottom 2 or 3 like other Idol winners Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks. For the final round between her and beatboxer Blake Lewis, Sparks sang “Fighter” by Christina Aguilera, “Broken Wing” by Martina McBride and “This Is My Now” which is the winning entry from a fan song-writing competition. Jordin won the title American Idol and immediately became the subject of every news and interviews because she proved that age does not matter if you have talent.
